Autumn trip

A little bit of everything this season in a short transition trip. Last week I went to Budapest, and the first afternoon I crossed the 19th-century Chain Bridge over the River Danube that connects the hilly Buda district with Pest.

First, a walk near the Danube Promenade or “Duna” in Hungarian, probably the easiest word in their language, part of the Uralic family. This area of the city is classified as an UNESCO World Heritage Site and the views are pretty in this capital that is quite big, considering the small size of the country.

Next, exploring Buda Castle hills, Matthias Church (Church of Our Lady) and popular Fisherman’s Bastion, for panoramic views over the Danube and the neo-Gothic Hungarian Parliament Building. Before crossing the bridge Pest, is worth mentioning that here in Buda are also a couple the most famous Turkish Baths.

Moving next to Pest side of the city – location of the Parliament Building and also of the State Opera House, Saint Stephen’s Basilica, Academy of Science and the Jewish quarter Erzsébetváros. But also the location to try the local cuisine, see New York City Café, Rubik’s cube mural or Váci Street for shopping. I mostly enjoyed walking until the Opera house on Andrássy Avenue, a boulevard lined with neo-renaissance or Baroque townhouses and tall trees with fallen yellow leaves.

Even though this was honestly a trip somehow I didn’t liked so much, and I can’t explain fully why, I still tried to stay curious, reflecting on the contrasts, focusing on the good parts, while knowing what a privilege traveling is. Do you also feel that also sometines when on the road?

I notice that autumn is more the season of the soul than of nature.
