Revisited a dear place. August 2021. The Old meets the New in Vienna. Always a pleasure to return to this wonderful city, with something new to discover. Beautiful, picture perfect and elegant. You see everywhere it used to be an imperial capital.
Nothing beats the quality of life of Vienna. I felt a connection in 2015 when I came here the first time and I am grateful to continue to explore the compact centering , the city’s art scene, museums, fin-de-siècle buildings and coffeehouse culture.
Vienna revisited
Walked near Josefsplatz square, and than spend a summer afternoon in the Museum Quarter, with lunch at “Corbaci” at Achitekturzentrum and coffee near “Museum of Modern Art Ludwig Foundation Vienna” or short, MUMOK, near a Litertur pasage under a portico, a new word learned in Bologna. Vienna Museum Quarter (MQ), that has a new rooftop and platform, Libelle MQ, at the top of the Leopold Museum.
The Old meets the New in Vienna

Mix & match
- Classic Schönbrunn Palace or colorful Hundertwasserhaus in Landstraße. Classic and modern art at Albertina Museum and Albertina Modern. Old meets the new
- Figlmuller for Schnitzel for lunch, dessert at Joseph Brot and Eis Greissler. And coffee at modern CoffeePirates in the 9th district in Spitalgasse, and traditional Café Schwarzenberg on Ringstraße, recommended even by a Viennese
- Windows shopping for vintage in Neubau 7thdistrict, on Burggasse, or high end in Karnerstrasse, in Vienna’s beautiful compact inner city
- Taking the tram 1 around the Ringstrasse or walk under a covered gallery. Go for the first time to Donau Insel, to see the sunset by the Danube
- Next time – explore more of Old Vienna in Franziskanerviertel.
Besides attending a Ball or New Year’s Concert at the Viennese Opera, the Summer Night Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic in front of Schönbrunn Palace is another bucket list for me.
A year from now you will wish you had started today.
Karen Lamb. A quote to think about.
