White Nights in Estonia

Remembering the time I went to Estonia for a summer school. The seminar: “Changing Europe: Migration – Challenge or Opportunity” was a project funded by EU’s former Youth in Action, current Erasmus plus programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe.

We had the opportunity to discuss in groups different interesting topics related to migration, such as what are the main issues of immigrations, and find answers the following questions: “What is your experience relating migrations?”, “What is the effect of media on migration? How does media affects the image of immigrants?” or “How should immigrants be included in the society?“.

Plus, I remember one day, after the morning seminar activities and lunch, we went on a trip and we had the opportunity to visit to Kohtla Jarve mining park to learn about it.

Next destination was my favorite: paid a visit to the Baltic sea in Saka Cliff. We saw the Gulf of Finland, had a group picture, saw the Kortsimae Cliff (part of Saka Cliff), took a walk on the beach, and some brave people even took a bath in the sea.

Luckily it coincided with the summer solstice and White Nights. I think is the best time to visit Estonia.

Last days before going home were free and we spend them in Tallinn, mostly in the beautiful Old Town. It started with a small guided walking tour in the city center, considered the best preserved medieval part in that part of Europe. I remember we even had a delicious breakfast in medieval style, similar to oatmeal, served by waitresses all dressed in historical clothing. Not before we took the ferry to Helsinki with “Viking line”, and on the way back saw a gorgeous sunset in the Baltic Sea.
